Since last summer, a small group of First Church members has been meeting monthly as the “Exploring Reparations” Faith & Life group. The group has explored what reparations have looked like and what reparations could look like, and they have shared experiences of personal and local reparations. They have learned about several initiatives in local municipalities like Asheville, NC, and Evanston IL. They’ve heard stories of reparations happening out of predominantly white congregations and denominations. They’ve wondered about where God is calling us next on our individual and collective First Church journey towards repair. Please join members of this group for a discussion of their learning and to consider how First Church, as a whole, could move towards a local reparations initiative.
