Lent 2025

Lent 2025: Wellsprings in the Wilderness

Each year the season of Lent begins with the story of Jesus spending 40 days in the wilderness, being tempted by “the Slanderer” (a.k.a. Satan) as Jesus begins his public teaching. “The wilderness” seems like a particularly poignant image for many of us these days, both in personal and public life. During this Lenten season, we will reflect on our experiences of wilderness and take hope that, even in the wilderness, there are wellsprings that sustain us. Because truth and truth tellers are one of those wellsprings, we’ll be blessed again by engaging with four powerful portraits from the Americans Who Tell the Truth project. Come, and drink from wellsprings in the wilderness this Lent, starting on Ash Wednesday, March 5.

Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday, March 7
7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Chapel and via livestream

On Ash Wednesday, we reflect on our origins in the dust, our brokenness, and our dependence on God. Through a liturgy of readings, song, and prayer, we gather together in the Spirit to acknowledge ashes as a sign of creation, mortality, repentance, and the Cross. Join us in person for our evening service with the imposition of ashes, or participate from home via our livestream.

BRING WATER TO WORSHIP ON MARCH 9!

On the first Sunday of Lent, March 9, we want everyone to contribute to our Wellsprings in the Wilderness for Lent. Please bring a bit of water with you from home, which we will collect as part of the service to create a visible wellspring.

We encourage you to say this prayer upon collecting the water, solo or with family:

Gracious God, thank you for this water that sustains my life. Be with me now as I offer it to my church family to create a wellspring of belonging. Amen.

Lenten Formation Series

Sundays, March 9, 16, 23, and 30
10:00 – 10:45 a.m.
Harter Room and via Zoom

The Christian Formation Committee invites you, once again, to engage with portraits of truth tellers as we walk together through the season of Lent. Join us for any or all of the four sessions dedicated to grounding ourselves in the stories of activists for immigrant justice, environmental sustainability, and trans rights, as well as a journalist who spoke truth to power with a generous dose of humor. In this “wilderness” time for our nation, come connect with these wellsprings as we seek spiritual sustenance and inspiration for our own action.
