Sanctuary of First Church in Cambridge

Regathering 2024

ROOM FOR US ALL

First Church in Cambridge invites you to join us this fall for our Regathering season,
beginning on Regathering Sunday, September 8,
with Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m.
and an All-Church Regathering Luncheon at 12:30 p.m.

A beloved First Church hymn reminds us that “the household of God has room for us all” as we make our way through a time of transition with the leadership of Interim Senior Minister Mike Solberg.

On this journey that we walk together, there is room for your grief and your joy, your longings and your celebrations, your anxieties and your anticipation. Bring all that you are to this place where God assures us that there is room for it all, and for us all!

September Opportunities to gather

Men’s Breakfast

Saturday, September 7, 8:00 – 9:30 a.m., Harter Room

The Men’s Breakfast is a forum for any and all who identify as men at First Church. We meet monthly to share breakfast and to share experiences. We prepare breakfast and participate with a rotating monthly leader. All are welcome!  If you would like to be added to the Men’s Breakfast email list to receive reminders of these gatherings, please contact Peter Byerly: p.byerly@comcast.net

Night Song Returns

Sunday evenings beginning September 8, 7:30 – 8:15 p.m., Sanctuary & via livestream

Night Song is a worship opportunity that offers stillness and sublime music in a darkened sanctuary for respite and reset. We all need time set aside from the demands of daily life and the issues facing our community and our world—a regular time to be still, to find clarity and purpose, and to center ourselves for the coming week. You’ll leave breathing more deeply and recharged to engage with your world. Night Song is a hybrid offering of First Church for in-person attendance in the sanctuary and viewing via livestream or listening at another time on the Night Song YouTube channel. Learn more about Night Song.

Meet MIke Solberg

Sunday, September 15, 9:30 – 10:15 a.m., Harter Room & via Zoom

For our first Adult Christian Formation session of the season, we will gather with our new Interim Minister Mike Solberg. Mike will introduce himself to us, but would also love to respond to whatever questions you have for him. Come join the conversation!

Young Adults: Brunch after Worship

Sunday, September 15, 12:30 – 2:00 p.m., Cambridge Common Restaurant

First Church has an active Young Adults Group of 20- and 30-somethings, who meet up for fellowship a couple times a month. If you’re in this age range, you’re invited to brunch after church on September 15 at Cambridge Common Restaurant! Can’t make it, but still want to learn about Young Adults meet ups? Email youngadults@firstchurchcambridge.org or talk to Casey Marsh or Phil Jones.

Youth group Kick-off: treetop adventures trip

Sunday, September 15, 12:45 – 3:45 p.m., TreeTop Adventures, Canton, MA

First Church’s high school teen Youth Group kicks off the year with a trip to a climbing and zipline park in Canton, MA. The teens and their leaders are leaving at noon for their afternoon adventure, returning to the church by 4:30 p.m. Questions about our Youth Group? Contact Sarah Higginbotham.

Aging with Grace Monthly Meeting

Tuesday, September 17, 3:00 – 4:15 p.m., via Zoom

Join Martha Mueller Cook and Linda Ziebell for a monthly support group where we offer each other companionship and spiritual resources as we grow into our elderhood. Using Connie Zweig’s The Inner Work of Age: Shifting from Role to Soul as a resource, we will explore how we can move away from the ego and “shoulds” of our younger lives toward quieter, more peaceful inner spaces as we face our mortality.

Women’s Community Book Group

Tuesday, September 17, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., via Zoom

Welcome back, FCC Women Readers! For our first meeting of the program year, we will read and discuss Annie Dillard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Some of you may recall that Dan Smith mentioned this book in his final sermon in June, as well as in several others over his 20 years with us, so we decided it would be a great place to start the next chapter of our journey. All those who identify as women, please join us as we begin a new year of good discussions and community!

Adult Formation: Braving Change

Sundays, September 22 & October 6, 9:30 – 10:15 a.m., Harter Room & via Zoom

In this season of new beginnings, Susan Reynolds and Beth Spaulding will lead two 9:30 sessions on navigating change in our own lives and the life of our church community. Using Andi Andrew’s Braving Change as a guide, we will explore how to mourn, accept and thrive through change, always giving ourselves the grace and space to see where God is leading us. All are invited, and no preparation or book purchase is required.

GBIO Victory Lunch and Updates

Sunday, September 22, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., Margaret Jewett Hall

This season, the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO) is all about celebrating our Housing Justice wins, connecting with each other in new ways across faiths and regions, and powering up for what comes next!
